Well, that didn’t take long! It was only yesterday that I posted about my decision to go forward with buying a new (used) car to replace my 1996 Mustang GT, and if you recall, I had pretty much found the car I wanted at Carmax and I was ready to go and put a deposit down on it this morning. Unfortunately, that car (a 9,000 mile 2011 Mustang GT) was gone from the website by the time I got to work and double-checked it’s availability. I was definitely bummed, but there was one other car I had been looking at – and it was still available. That other car was a 2012 Mustang GT in the exact color combo I wanted (white exterior, black interior) but it did have more options on it than I would have preferred. I guess I prefer simplicity when it comes to my “fun” cars – cloth seats and crank windows are fine by me, as long as it’s really fast, rear drive, and has a manual transmission.
I wasn’t even sure I was going to pursue that car due to the fact that it was located at the Ontario, CA Carmax store and they labeled it as “non transferrable”. I’m pretty sure that any car dealership would be perfectly happy to sell a car over the phone, but I really wanted to see the car in person before I committed to it and I really don’t have time at the moment to drive up to Ontario to check it out. On a whim, I called my local Carmax store here in San Diego to see if they could get it for me.
Long story short, they made a few phone calls and not only could they transfer it to San Diego for me, they would do so free of charge. Score! Carmax will transfer any car free of charge as long as it’s located within 250 miles, so I definitely lucked out there.
So…what to do? White is my absolute favorite color on any car, and this one looked to be in really good shape. It’s history report checked out clean, and the price was right. How long would I have to wait for another white 5.0 Mustang to become available if I passed on this one? I was definitely going to buy one at some time or another, and this car was ready and waiting, so I decided to buy it.
Here are the pics I scraped off of carmax.com before they pulled the listing down:
That’s a good looking 5.0 Mustang, isn’t it? To be honest, I don’t like the wheels at all. As a matter of fact, I think they are downright ugly. And I really didn’t want a leather interior. But the rest of the car? Pretty darn nice if you ask me!! The wheels I might swap out anyway, and once I make that change this will be one hell of a daily driver.
So now I have to sit and wait for Carmax to transfer the car here to San Diego. Once they get it, they have to do their own inspection and prep it for delivery. I hope that won’t take very long considering that this car isn’t very far away. It would be really nice if I could get into it this week, but even the sales consultant couldn’t give me a clear estimate. Sometimes it takes a day or two…and sometimes it takes a week.
More details soon!
